It's an easy read albeit heartbreaking, infuriating and upsetting. It's devastating to know FBI agents are willing to destroy the life of innocent people. For what? That everyday there are kind, good people being forced to admit to crimes they DID NOT commit all because fighting for their innocence will literally cost millions — they don't have. Again, for what? A college is a large complex organization that is generally managed by academics without management skills. Bad things can happen when these management skills are used operate the classroom. This is particularly true when has a college has a great reputation. This is a story about a well intended coach who was conned by a master manipulator and lacked support from his college. Coach Vandemoer cleared everything in advance with Stanford’s lawyers and senior administrators, and per the Netflix documentary is the only one who took no money or favors for himself. The donation was solely for the sailing team and went directly to Stanford’s development office. What really is shocking is his statement toward the end that seven other Stanford coaches had been dealing with Singer between 2009 and 2019 (ten years), and yet Stanford blamed and fired this wholly blameless coach?
